North West Regionals 2024, Weekend 2 Report

Over the weekend of the 27th and 28th April we took our Age groupers (11-14) to Liverpool to race over the second weekend of the North West Regional Championships. All our age group swimmers were keen to continue the form our Youth team showed the week previous and maybe even surpass some of the achievements. With 23 focused, skilled and very determined athletes we were looking forward to some very fast racing, with PB’s, Finals, Medals and Gold medals in our sights.
The weekend was quite relaxed if I am honest, warm up was at 9am so we had the opportunity of a lie in, and the finish times were decent at around 5pm so the swimming schedule was far more favourable compared to what our Youth swimmers were given the previous weekend at Manchester. Poolside was just about right, in terms of numbers, and if we forget about the scoreboard not working all weekend and the very hot conditions pool deck it was good racing conditions.
The results over the weekend were in one word phenomenal, with all our swimmers giving their very best, going toe to toe with the very best swimmers in the North West of England. For weekend 2 we achieved 9 GOLD, 2 SILVER and 1 BRONZE, giving us 12 medals for sessions 5-8, and 7 different swimmers gaining a top 8/final placing.
It wasn’t just about the medals and the finals, but it was also about the large number of PB’s, all swimmers did a fantastic job at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre, in what was very hot conditions, especially in the afternoon with the sun beating through the windows giving us a very clear greenhouse feeling.
Overall over the first 2 weekends of competition we have achieved:
11 GOLD
3 SILVER
3 BRONZE
18 MEDALS
42 FINALS
45 REGIONAL QUALIFIERS
