Club Championships - Weekend 2

On Saturday 23rd September Winsford Swim Team completed the final two sessions of our Club Championships 2017. Last week we had some very exciting racing so we were all looking forward to more of the same, with all our swimmers fighting hard to be crowned Club Champion. The racing as usual was fast and furious, with many swimmers taking on the full program of events in a very short period of time. It was great to see again the whole club taking part from the very young to the very experienced seniors. This weekend however we witnessed the absolute youngest swimmers of our club racing for the first time. The 8 and under swimmers racing over the 25m races, no doubt there would have been some nerves as it would have been their first taste of racing, but it was clear to see all performed superbly well, enjoying the experience immensely.
Over the last two sessions we completed the remaining races but we also had the very exciting SKINS event, where the top 6 swimmers in the 14 & under and 15 & over 200 IM compete over knockout rounds until we have two swimmers remaining, and then witness who is crowned SKINS Champion. We have been running the SKINS event for 4 years now and no doubt about it this year was probably the most exciting ever with races being decided literally on 100ths of a second.

Well Done to all our swimmers who raced in the SKINS,some superb racing. Champions were as follows:

Girls 14 Under: Izzy Kay
Boys 14 Under: Ethan Wright
Girls 15 Over: Millie Riddick
Boys 15 Over: Cam Jones

Not only did we have the SKINS to finish but we had the race of the year, the parents race! This year we had 5 competitors racing, Adam Parkinson,
Kerry Brundenell, Daniel Wood, Chris Price & Alison Spears all taking the plunge in the fastest pool in the country. After some ferocious swimming (50m Free) Adam and Alison won the gentleman and ladies race. Well done to all our parents and thank you for being good sports.

I said it in last weeks report but I will say it again thank you so much to all who make our Club championships so successful. An enormous amount of work goes into organising our Club Champs, so a massive, huge, gigantic thank you to all our volunteers, we all appreciate the work you put into our club and our swimmers. I would also like to say how wonderful it was to watch all our swimmers race from top to bottom in the ages and experience levels. It was great to see so many new young swimmers racing and I hope this gives you all a sweet taste for racing and that you will continue to train hard and race for our great swimming team.

Well done to one and all for making Winsford Swim Team Club Championships 2017 the most successful ever.

Our focus now switches the North Midland Championships which take place in less than two weeks time. We go there and compete as a team against all the other clubs in the North Midlands, I am sure all our swimmers will be optimising their training in the lead up to these Championships. I know all our swimmers will be ready for a good fight. Our swimmers will enjoy the challenge.

Thanks

Dan.
