Lloret De Mar Swim Camp 2020 Report

Well first of all, I am honoured to head up the 2020 swim camp for Winsford Swim team and I must say a huge thank you to Claire, Sue and Michael who are gold medalists in every way, from coaching, entertainment, organisation and drug delivery (Sue) you were all top draw.

With 13x2hr sessions to plan for and seniors and age groups performing different sets it was fair to say I felt under pressure to deliver a broad range of sets to keep all of the swimmers interested and to push them beyond their limit. My main aim for the week was to concentrate on their fitness with aerobic sets and specific distance timed sets.
We included a T60, 1500m and 800m timed sets on different days with the T60 including the senior swimmers and we recorded every swimmer’s distance to which 4,800m was the furthest. Every swimmer put in 100% effort and this was one of the highlights of the week. As we all were so impressed, we decided to give prizes for their results, however as coaches we found this very difficult to pick individual winners in each lane so we chose an overall winner and a runner up who received 1kg bag of Haribo. We then discussed this further and thought they all deserved something for their massive efforts and so, we decided to give them all prizes of small bags of Haribo, which we think went down a treat.
With a grand total of 81,000m in the pool over the week I know they have all grown mentally and physically and I must say you all handled whatever we threw at you really well throughout the week. No one missed a session. I have massive respect for you all.
The land training took place after the afternoon swim and again we tried to mix things up. The senior swimmers took to the gym so we decided to give 20 minutes of stretch and moving on to circuit training or spin sessions, which went really well and again everyone was engaged and worked hard.
I am sure that parents have now been fully informed of the resort and the difficulties that we faced during the evenings, to which we had to react as a team and restrict the free time to rooms or being with one of the coaches. I know this seemed very unfair however, this was for everyone’s safety.
I apologise to you all but Nasty Nige was only concerned for you all and we all thought this was the best moving forward, well done for sticking with this decision.
I hope you have all enjoyed the week and the coaches are very proud. It was a pleasure being with you all and I know you will all make massive gains over the next few weeks and I cannot wait for next year (if I get invited).
Remember today’s workout is your opportunity to build the swimmer you want to be tomorrow.
I will see you at  the pool later this week and I have loved spending the week with you all.
Massive respect,
Coach Nige
