New Races to be Introduced to British Summer Champs: Men's 800m & Women's 1500m

British Summer Championships 2018

Men’s 800m Freestyle & Women’s 1500m Freestyle

At a meeting of the British Swimming Pathway Implementation Group on Tuesday 19th September 2017 it was agreed that the Men’s 800m Freestyle & Women’s 1500m Freestyle Events would be introduced at the British Summer Championships 2018. The Home Nation Summer Meets are expected to follow suit.

Clearly an opportunity will have to be provided, within the Qualifying Window, for swimmers to post times into British Rankings so that they become eligible to be invited to compete in these events.

The Qualifying Window in 2018 is from the 1st March – 28th May.

Swim England Regions are requested to include these events in their Long Course Championships in 2018 for the same age groups as the Women’s 800m Freestyle and the Men’s 1500m Freestyle.

This may mean programming additional sessions, outside those already booked for the Championships.

In order to comply with Meet Licensing Requirements only ranked times can be used for entry into these events. As was the case when this situation last arose, it is suggested that Ranked 400m Freestyle times are used to enter the Men’s 800m Freestyle and Ranked 800m times are used to enter the Women’s 1500m Freestyle.

I fully appreciate that this will put additional workload on those who voluntarily organise the Regional Championships.

Regards & Thanks
