NW Regional Champs 2024 Weekend 1 - Report
Over the weekend of the 20th and 21st April Winsford Swim Team took 23 swimmers to Manchester to race in the first weekend of competition at the North West Regional Championships. The first weekend at the Manchester Aquatics Centre was for our youth swimmers (15 Over), with the Age groupers racing over the following two weekends.
The schedule was packed with a very near full programme of events, add to this there were finals for all 50’s, 100’s and 200’s. It was sure to be a very exciting weekend of racing with a large number of swimmers coming together from Cheshire, Lancashire and Cumbria, to compete for finals, medals and a place on the top of the podium.
On a hot a humid poolside (Air conditioning wasn’t working, the vents were just blowing out hot air), Winsford Swim Team were again looking forward to some fast racing, and this proved to be the case with a very large number of new life time bests. Over the weekend we had 5 medals won from Amy Kenworthy, Lois Inch, Molly Brennan and Lewis Turner, and 21 finals/top 8 placings. We did achieve more finals but due to a packed schedule not all finals were possible to be swum. We had 11 swimmers make at least one final which was fantastic for our team and our club. There was nothing better than racing against the best swimmers in the North West Region.
It was a terrific weekend of racing with all swimmers stepping up to the plate and giving their very best. The attitude from all swimmers was fantastic, so well done to all swimmers who represented Winsford Swim Team in Manchester, it was lovely to be poolside with you.
