A message from your 2021/2022 Club Captains

Female Club Captain Sophie Grindley

I’m Sophie and I am delighted to be your Club Captain for this season.

I have been swimming since I was 6 months old and took to the water immediately. I learnt to swim in a small pool in Castle, Northwich before joining Winsford where I came through my swimming journey as many others have, starting with Lessons then Transition to Development and now Juggernauts. Under the excellent coaching of both past and present Coaches I have achieved so much including 184 medals, Cheshire County and Regional Times and hopefully this year my first National Time. I have represented Winsford at so many galas along with the Crusader and Arena League and I am proud like so many to wear Winsford Swim Team Orange. The icing on the cake came when Dan asked me to be his Captain.

I am at the pool Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday evenings, along with Saturday morning if you need to speak to me about any concerns you have, advice or just a chat or you can drop me an email - butterflyjg14@yahoo.com

I hope we all have a great season and smash it as we always do and as Dan would say ‘See you at the pool’ on the 22nd October after my isolation.

Thanks your

Captain Sophie

Male Club Captain Jonathan Mullett

Nicknamed “Little John”, I’m your stereotypical 6 foot 4 swimmer.

Like Sophie, I was having lessons at 6 months old and luckily my lack of coordination on land didn’t matter quite as much when I was in the water.

My family moved to Singapore when I was 14 months old and so I was lucky enough to carry on with lessons outside in the sun. Believe it or not this did have some draw backs - lightning often stopped training and galas. Trying to swim backstroke in a straight line with only clouds for guidance also wasn’t easy. Like Sophie, I love to compete. One of my proudest moments as a young swimmer was winning the first ever swimming medal for my school in Singapore: that moment gave me a sense of what it means to win, to push yourself to be the best you can be.

Since joining Winsford aged 9, I’ve come up through the squads under the guidance of Dan and the amazing team of coaches. It’s not always been easy, and you might have periods where you feel like you’re not improving, but just keep training and those PBs will come.

Winning top boy at the North Mids was a great memory and I love the team feel of Arena League and Crusader, its fantastic to have everyone cheering. I’ve swum in the national open water competition (great fun if you’ve not tried) and qualified for Nationals 2019 in 100 freestyle.

Winsford is a fantastic swim team. I feel so lucky to have spent the last 9 years here and was honoured to be asked to be club captain by Dan before I go off to university next year.

Let’s make this a year to remember!
Jonathan
