WASC Club Championships 2021 Session 2 & 3 Report - Fast, Furious & lots of Fun!

Over the weekend of the 25th & 26th September our swimmers were in action at the Winsford Swim Team Club Championships, session 2 and 3. This weekend was fast and furious, with the Saturday consisting of the 200 IM, 200 Fly, 100 Free, 100 BK and the 50 Brst. The Sunday was lighter on events, with the 200 BK, and the second longest event in the pool, the 800 metres freestyle.
The results over the weekend were extremely positive, especially considering we are still in the first month of the new season. Race after race was full of excitement, with all swimmers going toe to toe to see who can gain the title of club champion.
It was great to see so many entering the 200 IM first thing on the Saturday and the 200 Fly, 200 BK, and the 800 Free which was the last event on the Sunday. Junior and age group swimmers should always be prioritising these middle and longer distance events, if we can do that long term success in the sport is more assured.
The IM is a key event as it really does show off multi skilled swimmers and their talents, again for long term success it is important to be racing over all events, because often a swimmers favoured strokes can change through their career lifespan. Also the 200 IM has qualified 24 of our swimmers (6 Girls, 6 Boys in both the 14 under and 15 over age categories) for the SKINS event, which takes place on the last day of competition. Be sure to stay behind to watch the very exciting climax of our club championships.
The 800 Free was also a huge positive with 5 heats and 28 swimmers racing over this event. Winsford have always had a great history of producing top distance swimmers, with us heavily represented at North Mids, Cheshires, Regionals and Nationals. Often the elite swimmers started off as distance swimmers, so again very pleasing to see so many swimmers from our club racing over the distance of the 800 free this weekend and the 1500 free two weeks ago.
Well Done again to all who competed this weekend over session 2 & 3, it was wonderful to see everyone race and great to watch some very competitive racing. It is this competition that brings on all our swimmers, competition in training and racing and being challenged is so very important. At Winsford we are very lucky to have lots of strength in depth across the age groups.
Swimmer of the day? Very difficult one as everyone was fantastic, however I have made the decision to name all our 8-10 year olds as swimmers of the weekend. Well Done to you all for competing, I am sure you all had a wonderful time racing, and remember you are the long term future of our club.

Thank you to everyone who has helped, so our club championships can go ahead, and be its wonderful success. It is a huge team effort from all our volunteers. Special mention to the army who wear the orange, team managers, lane Marshalls, coaches, and to the white army of judges, time keepers, refs, starters, and to all the organisers and technical support, and to everyone who has helped to set up and take down the pool. The volunteers of our club make a massive difference to our swimmers and our club, thank you we couldn’t do it without you.
We now look forward to the final day of our Club Championships on Saturday 2nd October, I am sure all swimmers will be getting to the pool as much as possible to aid our preparation.
See you at the pool, and keep up the great work swimmers.
Dan.
