Bakewell Autumn Meet 2024 Report

On Sunday 8th September we took a team of 29 swimmers to the Arc Centre in Matlock for the Bakewell Autumn meet. It was the first meet of the season and we were raring to go. It was no pressure, fun environment and just great to get a feel for racing again after the summer break.

We had medals up for grabs for top 6 places so it was certainly worth fighting for. But wow did we perform, all 29 swimmers came home for a medal today, as well as nearly every swimmer achieving at least one lifetime best, with it being so early on this was fantastic to see. We achieved a total of 151 medals between the squad which is just a crazy amount! Congratulations to the whole team!!

There was certainly too many high moments to discuss thoroughly but here’s some of my favourite standout highlights to report back. Firstly congratulations to Ethan Wright who managed to get 3 lifetime PBs today, which as a senior swimmer is extremely difficult and rare. Ethan finally broke the sub 1 minute barrier for 100 Back, something he’s been trying to do for a while, Congratulations! Special mention to Hattie, Jeff, Emily, Alfie, Aston and of course Ethan who spent the whole day completely undefeated by winning every single one of their races. Extra kudos to Eris who entered every single event and pb’d in nearly all of them. Congratulations to Hattie who finally broke the 1.25 marker on 100 Brst after not managing it last season. To Holly Grant who got her most ever medals at a swimming gala so far. And to Lauren, Juliet, Penny, Joseph, Pippa for achieving their first ever external meet medals, you did Development mighty proud.

Overall it was a truly fantastic meet, we all really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you to Zoe Coxon, Kate Querelle, Dave Lunt, Marie Wright and Bria Coxon for helping officiate. To Dani Stonier and Sara Hancock for being fantastic team managers.
