Inter County Team Championships 2019 - REPORT
On Sunday 6th October Winsford Swim Team had 3 swimmers representing Cheshire County at Ponds forge Sheffield against every other County in the UK. Cheshire this year were racing in Division 1 after getting promoted from division 2 last year, so we were up against 19 other top counties whilst the other 20 teams who made up the division 2 competition was taking place in the other half of the pool. So two lots of races going on at the same time, with a packed balcony and poolside with swimmers coming to Sheffield across Great Britain would of course result in the best atmosphere ever for a swimming event!
Lewis was our youngest representative, racing in the 12-13 years 100 Backstroke, Lewis had some fantastic swims achieving new Life time bests in both his 100 BK individual and in his 50 BK split in the relay. A great experience for Lewis with it being his first outing for Cheshire, I am sure he will be working hard to gain selection in future years.
Jay was racing in the 16-17 years 100 Butterfly and 100 Freestyle, Jay had some decent swims in his individual races but his stand out swim was in the Free relay where Jay was going first and smashing home a new life time best and in his medley relay with a super split in his 50 Fly. Jay also had the honour of being made Cheshire Captain!
Ethan Jones was racing in the 16-17 years 100 Backstroke, Ethan as always had fantastic swims in both his individual BK race and in his Medley Relay, Ethan came home in some excellent times being on PB for all his swims and giving Cheshire some much needed points. Ethan as always steps up when he is needed.
Needless to say the standard of swimming was as they say off the the charts, with the best swimmers in Great Britain battling with every ounce of energy they have got. After 31 events Cheshire finished in 17th place out of 20 teams, just 4 points from safety, so unfortunately relegated to division 2. I am sure Cheshire will come back stronger next year and regain their place in division 1.
Congratulations again to all 3 of our lads who gained selection to the Cheshire County Swimming Team, a great achievement and thoroughly deserved.
Well Done lads.
Thanks
Dan.
