NW Regional Champs 2022 - Weekend 3 Report + Final medal table
Over the weekend of the 30th April and 1st May, Winsford Swim Team travelled to Liverpool to race in the last weekend of the NW regional championships 2022. This weekend it was again for all our age group swimmers 11-14 and also our youth swimmers for the girls 1500 free and boys 800 free. As a team we were in determined mood to swim fast, targeting finals, medals and ultimately gain the title of regional champion. It was also one of the last opportunities to improve on our national rankings.
Winsford Swim Team over sessions 9-12 did fantastically well, winning 1 Gold, 6 Silver, 5 Bronze, giving us a total of 12 medals. Add to this we also achieved 31 finals/top 8 placings. The medals and finals were also shared out, with 11 different swimmers gaining a medal over the weekend, and 21 swimmers reaching a final.
It was great to see Winsford heavily involved in the events which set us up for future success, such as the 200s, 400 IM and distance free events. It is these events which are so important for our swimmers, especially in the junior and age group categories, so very pleasing to see our swimmers racing and doing very well.
After the final weekend of competition Winsford Swim Team achieved so, so much with a grand total for the Regional Championships of 38 medals, and exactly 100 finals/top 8 placings. This for our club is absolutely fantastic, and is sign of the commitment shown by our swimmers and the coaching team over the many months leading into the competition. Winsford again punching above our weight.

Many thanks as always to our team managers; Claire Turner and Lisa Ball for looking after our team this weekend, superb job. Also thank you to Lisa for bringing in cup cakes, cookies and sweets for all our swimmers after they competed. It was Henry Ball and Ruby Thomas’s birthdays today, lovely gesture for everyone. Thank you to all team managers over the 3 weekends, top job from everyone. Also thank you to all Winsford parents who helped poolside and to our judges. Also thank you to all parents for your continued support to Team Winsford from the balcony.
It was an all round great team effort from everyone. We gave it our all, and that is all anyone can ask. After missing 2 years of Regional Championships due to Covid, it was so great to be back racing the best swimmers in the North West of England, and seeing our swimmers race their hearts out. It was so much fun, not only the toe to toe racing, but being a part of the team, supporting each other every step of the way.
Reminder photo for all Regional swimmers on Wednesday (4th) at 7pm in the cafe, please bring all medals, and wear orange Winsford tops plus black shorts, leggings, trousers. We would love to see every single swimmer in attendance, because ALL swimmers contributed to our success and all deserve and should be on the photo.
I am sure all our swimmers can't wait for the next Regional competition (Winter SC Regionals, November) and for the Summer Regionals next year. For sure all our swimmers will come back even more determined to qualify, gain finals and medals and have lots of fun doing it.

A handful of swimmers will now travel down to Swansea for the last meet of the National Qualifying window, and then the next meet where we will be taking a team is to the Swim Conwy Meet in Llandudno, lots to look forward to.
