Winsford Swimming Club

It’s that time of year, the weather is warming up and it’s nearly time to hit the lakes and get outside for a some swim sessions! This year the coaching team would like to see a record breaking amount of Winsford swimmers taking on the open water regionals, as a coaching team of outdoor swimming lovers we are super passionate to see our swimmers taking part, nothing quite hits those endorphins as much as a beautiful sunny outdoor swim. This year the championships are held at Sale Water Park on the 28th June and entries open this Thursday! The information can be found here -

This is a double event with medals up for grabs for the top 3 in the region and the top 3 in Cheshire meaning if you win your race outright you get two medals for one race, bingo! Not to mention the top 4 for each age group receive invitations to compete in the Summer Nationals at Rother Valley, historically we had many swimmers gain national qualification via this open water championships. The race is for anyone age 12 & above. 

For anyone who is considering but not sure please speak to Andy or myself over the upcoming days. If we have any nervous swimmers or not sure, and may want a bit of confidence for their first session I recommend booking a 1:1 or even team up with one of your friends and book a 1:2 session at Sale Water park with 1 of the coaches, they are all fantastic.

There is also a coached group session on a Tuesday evening at Sale Water Park which a group of our swimmers went to last year. I will share more once I know the times and start dates of this.

Other training venues include Wildshore, Alderford Lake, Manley Mere, Boundary Water Park, Salford Quays. 

Andy and myself are also going to include some pool work for those doing the championships this year including buoy rotations, drafting skills, sighting and other factors to help us race smarter and sharper outside this summer.
