Wirral Metro Spring Meet 19 Report

Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th saw Winsford Swim Team head over the Wirral border to Europa Pools in Birkenhead for the Wirral Metro L3 Spring Meet. This gala was an opportunity to earn PBs, medals and chase regional times! Our opposition was tough but that did not matter to us, every single athlete swam with great determination, pride and professionalism. The team consisted of a mixture of swimmers from Development and Juggernaut B. It was great to see everybody join as a team and support each other. Even the parents were sat amongst us! Winsford raced their hearts out to gain a mass haul of PBs, medals and even some regional qualifying times.

Our Swimmers:

Freddie Cushen, Will Line, Erin Hardy, Freya Johnston, Sophie George, Thomas Kud, Caitlin Fonseca, Rebecca Line, Amelia Fitzgerald, Sophie Bott, Hannah Webster, Milly Venning, Abbie George, George Young, Amber Young, Tom Carss, Carla Jackson, Lana Booth, Ella Booth, Connor McVicar, Christian Lowndes, Cillian Wilkes, Ross Hanley, Sophie Grindley, Charlotte Thomson, Alicia Thomson, Will James, Harvey James, Megan Rickels, Jessica Bradley, Lois Inch, Lexi Inch, Connor Jackson, Charlotte Mullet, Adam Wright, Oliver Jolliffe and Ellie Davies

Our Results:

  • Gold: 24
  • Silver: 27
  • Bronze: 16

I would like to say a huge thank you to all poolside volunteers for their help and support; Julie Grindley, Rich Line and Karen Johnston. I am proud of each swimmer this weekend, a big well done especially to those swimmers achieving regional times and to the swimmers who bounced back and stood up to defeat. We had a few DQs over the weekend for several reasons and some swimmers narrowly missing RQTs by fractions of a second, yet our swimmers held their heads high and continued to swim with great courage in the rest of their events. The children were a pleasure to be on pool deck with, always smiling and making me laugh.

“Ask anyone that has ever done anything worth mentioning and they will tell you that failure is temporary and an important step in success. Very rarely do people succeed on their first attempt. Instead, failure is nature’s way of weeding out the weak and testing the fortitude of the strong.” (Unknown)

Thanks

Alex
