Club Championships 2021 Final Report - Frills, spills, skills and lots of fun!

On Saturday 2nd October Winsford Swim Team were racing in the final two sessions of our Club Championships. The day consisted of lots of events, ranging from the 400 Free and IM, down to the 50m sprint events, plus the ever so exciting SKINS competition as the finale.
We had all squads competing and racing their very best to achieve new life time bests, and super fast times so we can qualify for future meets and championships later in the season. Not only this but all our swimmers were racing their hearts out to see if they can gain a top 3 placing and beat their swimming friends.
The racing over the day was nothing short of fantastic, with race after race of frills, spills and skills. They say racing is 90% mental and 10% physical, and that was true of today with all swimmers going in with tremendous determination. What impressed me most was the sheer number of races many of our swimmers were taking part in, and yet they were getting in and getting stuck in, even with fatigue in their bodies. To be a top swimmer you need, skill, technique, fitness, athleticism but most of all you need the right mentality, and our swimmers had it in bucket loads today.
Not only did we race over many different events, but we also had the finale of the SKINS events, where swimmers compete over 50m, with a swimmer knocked out every round until there is one swimmer remaining. This was as always very exciting with some very close racing, and in many cases PB’s achieved in the rounds. The atmosphere was electric with shouts, screams and lots of cheering. Results for the SKINS were as follows:
14 Under Girls                     14 Under Boys          15 Over Girls             15 Over Boys
1st: Izzy Fletcher                 Will Line                   Amy Kenworthy          Tom Kud
2nd: Sienna Oxby                Joe Mather                Sophie Grindley         Jonny Mullett
3rd: Alissa Clarke                 Edward Ma                Sophie George           Lewis Turner
4th: Molly Brennan               Ciaran Turner            Eleanor Ma                Adam Wright
5th: Rebecca Line                 Henry Ball                Sophie Harrison          George Young
6th: Ruby Thomas                Dan Richardson        Izzy Whittle                Tom Carss
Well Done to all who qualified for the SKINS, we hope you enjoy your chocolate!
Highlight of the day? Seeing the sheer enjoyment everyone was having. It has been a pretty awful last 18 months, so it was so nice to see everyone smiling, laughing, cheering each other on, shaking hands, hugging and generally supporting each other. It was so nice to get back racing, with everyone having fun. It was also really nice to see and hear the spectators clapping all heats and swimmers and being so supportive to all swimmers, not just their kids. This to me all shows the team spirit we have at Winsford Swim Team so thank you to all swimmers, spectators, coaches and the wonderful volunteers who helped to make our Club Championships a wonderful success. Winsford Swim Team have the best club championships, well done everyone.
Now that the club champs are complete we now look forward to the presentation evening, watch this space for venue and dates. We also look forward to our first L3 meet of the season where we will be racing other clubs at the Satellites Autumn Meet. This meet takes place in two weeks, so now is the time to really take training attendance and performance to a new level. We have so much talent at the club and with proper training we can have a stunning season with lots of success to celebrate.
Congratulations again to all our swimmers, top job everyone and as always, see you at the pool.
Dan.
