Stockport Metro Meet November 2021- Report
Over the Friday and weekend of the 19th, 20th & 21st November, Winsford Swim Team travelled to Stockport to race in the Stockport Metro November Meet. This meet is a very high standard meet, with swimmers coming from all over the country, consisting of many national standard swimmers across all the age ranges.
We decided to to do this meet in the hope of achieving some last chance National Winter Qualifying Times and to challenge ourselves against some of the best swimmers, not only in the region but in the country.
Over the 5 sessions Winsford had a mix of results, with Tom Kud adding the 1500 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly NQTs to his 200 Butterfly and 100 IM, which he achieved in previous meets. We also had a number of swimmers who were so very close to achieving NQTs, over various different events. It is very encouraging to have so many swimmers who are very close to achieving the benchmark, as for many of our swimmers they will have another year or two in the 16 under category.
So overall it was a good meet in Stockport with a number of positives to take away with us. Swimmer of the meet has to go to Tom Kud for his 2 NQTs, but I would also like to mention Abi Binns and Amy Kenworthy who have just recently joined us and have fitted in so well. Also I would like to shout out for a girl who doesn’t get enough mentions is Eleanor Ma, who had an outstanding 200 Butterfly and came very close to the NQT. There were of course many others who deserve a mention, Carys Roberts springs to mind who just narrowly missed the 50 & 100 Free NQT, but I know she will come again. Also mentions for, Adam Wright who had an amazing 800 Freestyle, and to George Young who is improving all the time and mixing it now with the big boys of the club. Also to Sophie Grindley, and Sophie George who love a Fly event, and to Lewis Turner who has an outstanding commitment level for swimming and achieving his 1500 Free NQT. And too Lois Inch who just loves, and I mean loves, Breastroke, qualifying for the 100 & 200 Breastroke aged just 14.
It is clear to see that we have lots of potential for the Summer National Championships if we can apply ourselves correctly and get down to some focused training, because we do enjoy the LC format. The next 8 months are sure to be very exciting not only for the 11 swimmers who competed in Stockport but for so many of our swimmers who are either targeting County, Regional and/or National Qualification.
