 Important DBS update: changes from 1st September

From 1st September, a change in legislation affecting DBS checks and guidance will come into effect. For clubs, there will be no change in relation to eligible roles, as current Swim England requirements already meet the updated guidance. The key change will apply to those recruited to new roles. From 1 September onwards;

  • Anyone undertaking a role requiring a DBS check under Wavepower must have their DBS clearance completed before starting the role.
  • There is no longer an exemption if the person’s role is supervised.
  • Clubs must not deploy anyone to a role until they have received confirmation of their DBS check.
  • Being ‘in progress’ is not sufficient. This also applies to anyone renewing their DBS.

This change will also impact Club Affiliation – all roles as set out in Wavepower must have a valid DBS check in place by the date of affiliation. Contact support@swimming.org if you have any queries.

 North West Triathlon Academy

If you have thought about giving triathlon a go as part of your aquatic journey, but not sure where to start applications for the North West Triathlon Academy for the 2026-2027 programme are now open,

Swim and run trials for new athletes will be held on 12th September at Lancaster, Salt Ayre Leisure Centre.  [Click here for further details]

 Swim England to evolve Coach Education with new curriculum and courses

SE is evolving Coach Education to better reflect the realities of modern coaching and support positive experiences for participants across aquatics.

Alongside the new curriculum, SE are creating a wider range of learning opportunities. SE know that not every coach will want or need to complete a full programme, and many volunteers may prefer more flexible ways to learn alongside their existing commitments.

You can now register your interest in three short courses running in September 2026 by clicking on the titles below:
