Important DBS update: changes from 1st September |
From 1st September, a change in legislation affecting DBS checks and guidance will come into effect. For clubs, there will be no change in relation to eligible roles, as current Swim England requirements already meet the updated guidance. The key change will apply to those recruited to new roles. From 1 September onwards;
- Anyone undertaking a role requiring a DBS check under Wavepower must have their DBS clearance completed before starting the role.
- There is no longer an exemption if the person’s role is supervised.
- Clubs must not deploy anyone to a role until they have received confirmation of their DBS check.
- Being ‘in progress’ is not sufficient. This also applies to anyone renewing their DBS.
This change will also impact Club Affiliation – all roles as set out in Wavepower must have a valid DBS check in place by the date of affiliation. Contact support@swimming.org if you have any queries.
